Having worked in the Financial Industry for several years I have seen the good and bad times. It is widely believed that the mortgage market has levelled out and in some cases getting better, but I beg to differ, and the only thing that has changed is the difficulty in obtaining a mortgage for possible debt consolidation. Although the Bank of England base rate is very low at the moment and trackers are saving many people hundreds of pounds each month, there is little hope for the customer with minor or severe bad credit. Where is the help for people with little or no equity and/or a bad credit profile?

On speaking to past and existing customers it has become very clear that the only way forward is some form of controlled debt solution, be it debt management, IVA or in some extreme cases even bankruptcy as a last resort. These products must be recognised as the way forward not only for the hard working advisor like myself, but also for the client.

I speak to clients every day, and it is very disturbing to hear some of their stories of creditors telephoning several times a day, 6 days a week, and aggressive letters building up and not being opened. It is hard to imagine the pressure these people are under, and the stress these situations can cause. When visiting clients I review their full financial situation, warts and all, in order to access the way forward and a find the best product to get their lives back on a level playing field. In some cases even talking about their financial situation can be extremely emotional for the client.
